From among thousands of contestants, Erin Krex of First Class Care, Inc. , a Chicago, Illinois domestic placement agency, has been ranked #16th in StartupNation.com’s 2010 Leading Moms in Business competition (www.startupnation.com/leading-moms-in-business).
“I’m grateful for the support of clients, friends and family who voted for me in this competition,” says Krex. “It means people think I’m doing my job well. It’s also particularly rewarding to be recognized among my peers. ”
Over 709,000 votes were cast in support of the 2010 contestants, reflecting immense interest and support for moms building businesses at the same time they tend to their families.
Like so many mompreneurs, Krex was inspired to start her business as a result of her own experiences. When looking for a nanny for her son, she was dissatisfied with the existing Chicago nanny agencies and saw a need for better domestic help options.
After researching nanny placement services across the country, Krex hired a 20-year industry veteran from Philadelphia as a consultant. Krex learned the tools of the trade and in 2006 she launched First Class Care, Inc. to provide Chicagoland families with highly qualified, exceptional domestic help. This includes not only nannies, but babysitters, housekeepers, house managers, personal chefs and eldercare companions.
Krex’s first year was so successful that husband Steve Krex sold his 20-year business and joined her company. In addition to the main office in Northbrook, they also have a Chicago branch office.
